Some WATS numbers

Now there are videos on the interwebZ with like 30-40 million views so my little numbers are like meh compared to those...

BUT given the fact that I am making bizarre material for a super small niche I think the numbers are kinda inspiring... and also WATS doesn't have any b00bs, cats...nothing to do with celebrities, politics, pop culture or anyone hitting they balls...

So as of right now... WATS in languages besides English total: 446,525 views The English version has 687,974 views... so thats 1,134,499 total for a film that old dead bastards and generic sheeple walked out of at Sundance... After looking at the youtube insight for all the versions... Over %50 of the people watching WATS on Youtube are under 18 years of age.

So 20 years ago NO ONE would have seen WATS after what happened at Sundance... because there was no interwebs... no way to reach the people who might be interested in it... So I exist only because of this cyber place... If it was up to the rotten bastards who run all the old media companies people like me wouldn't exist either... they don't want anyone else to be producers... they want us all to be mindless consumers.... Why is my Download speed like 20x faster than my Upload speed here in California? Oh yeh yeh technical limitations... right.

Also about views.... I don't like the trend wherein interweb people somehow equate the quality of something with how many times it has been seen... example "This only has 50 views, this is shit"..... but whatever the world is full of mindless sheeple and they certainly do congregate in droves on youtube ^ ^ Did I mention I'm a pretentious elitist jerk as well as being bold and stubborn? ^ ^

This animation is subtle and profound... with more truth, emotion and power in it than any of the modern crap that panders to mediocre minds and zero attention spans...

It says with no words more than any modern chattering animation ever will... Visual storytelling at its best... It was made with pieces of paper and a camera... JUST FUCKING PAPER!!!! And yet no fancy 3d animation can touch it... That is why I love the animation of the Brothers Quay... there is magick in theY works... its almost as if words would pollute and taint them...

  1. dude good point.. i was showing my friends this music video from my friends band.. and they said that it must suck cause it only has 300 views! that pissed me off so much.. and they think that the only reason movies get put in theatres is cause its good, same with bands.. when i tell my friends about pnok, viktoria a. lisbet, or endometrium cuntplow, i just hear them say.. "the reason that theyre not big yet is cause they suck"

    fuck those assholes

  2. How do you find this sort of thing? This is the problem that I have, I love watching new things but I can never find anything...

  3. I can imagine M Dot Strange as the "pure" prophetic effigy and the black effigies as the producers/directors/moneyhandlers in Hollywood. Your time will come M Dot Strange...

I have a question M Dot Strange... What if someone (let's say, an actor) from Hollywood acknowledges you on national television? What would be your potential reaction to the recognition? Are your feelings for the producers of Hollywood equisdistant to the Hollywood actors as well?

  4. That short is brilliant, really loving it!

I would have to agree with you on the 'Views does not equate to quality enterainment'

Yuotbe does have artists, but then everyone has the power to reach out to the world. Most people are raped up in their own worlds to look outsid themselves and see what links us all, plus they think cats are super cute.

It's our jobs to smash peoples narrow views, but to also focus them onto what is really important.

    That is our job...

  5. This whole thing has got me thinking.... Mass media seeks to appeal to the lowest common denominator... Or to be blunt... they make things that idiots will understand and enjoy... So the stuff they put out is very basic and simple... it requires little to no thought and is VERY derivative... "people like what they know"... Humans like to be comfortable... from comfort comes mediocrity... there is no growth.....its a static state...stagnant...nothing great will come from comfort... Why are the toughest fighters in the world... example...Fedor Emelianenko...Wanderlei Silva... from places like Russia and Brazil? Because there's rough shit over there that they had to overcome to do what they do....

And what always happens wif us Americans? Some d00d is like the best in the world...gets rich, lives the life of luxury and slowly becomes teh FAIL... I'd rather be poor and "unknown" and make ill shit forever...

As soon as artists get comfortable they start to sux0r! Thats why I didn't go after those Hollywood deals... So what if I did? Ok I'd have hella money and people doing shit for me... Would I be struggling trying to find 3d liquid simulation tutorials right now? NO.... I would be comfortable...I wouldnt be learning or getting stronger.... I'd be getting weaker...

Being "rich and famous" does not equal success to me... Success is doing that I want to do and being recognized for it internationally the real way.... not because some publicist is working for me... not because my studios PR team is working on making me seem "cool" or "hot"...

One of you admiring what I do means more to me than if 1 million mindless consumers thought I was "cool" cause they saw me on TV or some shit...

Mass media is made up entirely of lies... I want to be real and tell the truth to people...

We are in an age wherein the true talent will rise to the top... we have the tools... we have the means in which to promote and distribute our media... we can even make some money in the process... NO its not comfortable! but come on... do you think Beethoven had a comfortable life? FUCK NO! Yet his music will live on for all eternity... most all the people you see working in the system today will soon be forgotten as the system erodes and there aren't anymore prints and advertising campaigns to try to convince you why they are relevant... THEN the truth comes out!

"A philosophical parable about ignorant crowds who are unaware of or defy their own history. Intolerance of other people's views or color of skin is the cause of conflicts in the modern world."

  7. Totally agree about all the P&A madness.

    Check this out (should deal nicely with the 'P' side of things);

    http://www.quvis.com/?Action=Products&SubAction=wraptor

This is a game changer for digital cinema mastering ($699!!!). I was looking into this a few months ago - their main competition (Qube Cinema) charge $50,000 for their software!

What format should I render out of Cinema 4d with?

UPDATED 2_27_13!  RENDER USING EXR Lossy Zip16! Since I'm working on a new feature film that will generate over 1500 shots made up of image sequences I need to make sure I choose the right file format to render to lest my hard drives explode. What I need from my format is  at least 16bit, an alpha included and preferably small size. I rendered out a frame from my film tallied up all the file sizes here- their all different types of codecs listed from smallest file size to largest. The render includes an RGBA pass, Depth pass, and Material Luminance pass because thats what I always render out. 1.00mb 8bit-Photo Jpeg %100 1.27mb 8bit-PNG 4.65mb 16bit- EXR lossy ZIP16 5.75mb 8bit-PSD 6.23mb 16bit-EXR lossy PLZ 6.44mb 16bit-PNG 7.94mb 8bit-TIFF 8.50mb 16bit-EXR Lossy 24 9.05mb 16bit-EXR Lossy Run Length 14.6mb 8bit-TARGA 22.4mb 32bit-EXR ZIP16 24.6mb 32bit-EXR Zip1 25.6mb 32bit-EXR PLZ 29.3mb 16bit-TIFF 29.3mb 16bit-PSD 40.0mb 32bit-EXR Run Length 58.7mb 16
