Ever since they made cell shading, I've wanted them to make something that really looks hand drawn and this is the closest I've ever seen to that and it looks great!

  8. Is that cellshading? It certainly looks cellshaded but it's so much better then most of the cellshading attempts I've seen (like for example, Jet Set Radio or Skyland)

  11. @nodelete

Yeh I felt the same way when I saw it way back when... made me realize the power of matte paintings I hadn't been utilizing... I mean that guys a great painter so he does his own and it looks great... but yeh I think the matte paintings add a lot to it.

  12. Matte Paintings? What exactly are those?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Matte paintings: when you put your paint canvas down on the floor matte, then take your shoes, and cover them with paint, and walk around on the floor matte with your canvas and make footstep painting, add different colors and repeat until it looks liek what you want it to. Pretty easy, actually.

  14. >:D but srsly...

I wondered how he got such artistic detail in his images, there's definitely some post production thrown in there as well in after effects, or maybe projecting the matte paintings onto geometry in 3D.

I've been adapting the 'painting with polygons' method described by Issac Botkin here: http://www.outside-hollywood.com/siggraph/ to my toon shading method, and I'm quite happy with some of the results, a lot more 'concept art' looking than the typical shiny photorealistic rendering. And it works in stereo-3D as well.

Funny how the 'concept art' for a film can look better than the shiny cgi does, and you wish they just did the whole film looking like the concept art....

  15. ¡WHOA, FEEDBACK!!

Beautiful. I'm mean, shocked. The stuf is like... wooooooooooooo!!!
Oh my goodness!!! Man I gotta think of more to say, cause I can't for now, lol..

Also, don't take this the wrong way, but for some reason this one and the Dr. Who anime kinda reminded me of Deltoa Quest. Like the beauty and glory of the art, of the sense stimulating visions..Yeah the visuals. Deltora Quest has some captivating, ae-inspiring substantial-style visuals. I WOW..

What format should I render out of Cinema 4d with?

UPDATED 2_27_13!  RENDER USING EXR Lossy Zip16! Since I'm working on a new feature film that will generate over 1500 shots made up of image sequences I need to make sure I choose the right file format to render to lest my hard drives explode. What I need from my format is  at least 16bit, an alpha included and preferably small size. I rendered out a frame from my film tallied up all the file sizes here- their all different types of codecs listed from smallest file size to largest. The render includes an RGBA pass, Depth pass, and Material Luminance pass because thats what I always render out. 1.00mb 8bit-Photo Jpeg %100 1.27mb 8bit-PNG 4.65mb 16bit- EXR lossy ZIP16 5.75mb 8bit-PSD 6.23mb 16bit-EXR lossy PLZ 6.44mb 16bit-PNG 7.94mb 8bit-TIFF 8.50mb 16bit-EXR Lossy 24 9.05mb 16bit-EXR Lossy Run Length 14.6mb 8bit-TARGA 22.4mb 32bit-EXR ZIP16 24.6mb 32bit-EXR Zip1 25.6mb 32bit-EXR PLZ 29.3mb 16bit-TIFF 29.3mb 16bit-PSD 40.0mb 32bit-EXR Run Length 58.7mb 16
