In memory of Dad dot Strange

My dad died today- he raised me the best he could as he was in and out of Veterans hospitals as he was injured while in the Navy- he was an artist who got Parkinsons disease and couldn't control his hands anymore-that happened when I was still a kid- I hadn't seen him for seven years before I saw him on his death bed-

He was never able to support his family in his situation which I'm sure wore on him- so when he was dying I told him I was thankful to him for the great genetics he gave me as my intuition told me a father would feel guilty that he had nothing to leave his son- he said "ok" and grabbed my hand-

I felt failed as a son as I never had enough money to take care of him better as he was in a crappy care home at the end of his life but I chose the path of the artist and thats the path I walk on so I have no regrets-

I never had one straight conversation with my dad as he talked in ciphers- so there'll be things I'll always wonder about- but I like a little mystery-

I'd like to think that since I grew up to be an artist- I'll paint his greatest work of art with my accomplishments in creativity as his son.

  1. Sorry to hear that, man. Losing a dad is rough. You always hear people say "not a day goes by," when speaking of loved ones, but it's really true that not a day goes by when I don't think of my old man. Dads loom so large when you're little, when they go, it's like someone just plucked a mountain off the landscape with no explanation.

    Keep your chin up, Strange.

  5. So very sorry to hear about your loss. I have not had to suffer this yet , but I do remember the night my grandmother died. I composed a song that night (in memory i guess) and to this day think of her when it happens on my radar.

take a few minutes and make something., even if you do not ever share it with anyone , it will be something that will have special meaning to you and bring you joy through the years.

  7. I'm sorry to read about your Dad, M dot. I know you had an ambiguous relationship with him, but it still must hurt when your father dies. I send my support and love to you. You have many friends any one of which would stand by you if you need their support. You've given us all so much with your imagination and ideas.

  8. Just watched your speech at the la convention thing. It really put into perspective how much you have accomplished in life. It's so great that your father got to see you evolve into a BAWSE. I'm sure he was proud his son grew up to create such powerful works as an artist.

    Rest in Peace

  10. Mdot, I truly am sorry and my deepest condolences to you and your family for your loss. It is inspiring to see how your father has left a mark in his legacy through his son now that you have become what he always strived to do. Your father and you have inspired me to continue to grow and share my art with others - now that I just had my first son recently it gives me an inspirational story. We are with you in this time of grief Mike.

  12. As a dad I can say I don't believe my son could ever "fail" me, no matter how he turns out.
All I can do is assume maybe your dad thought the same.

  16. Sorry for your loss Mdot.
You have followed the path that he wanted to follow but was unable to. With you his dream lives on, and perhaps this was even a source of hope, happiness and peace in his final years and moments.
If there is an afterlife, I'm sure his spirit will be looking out for you from beyond our world. What ever the case, he lives on through you, through your accomplishments, through your actions, through your blood and through the rest of his family and the effects that he had on those he knew and the world. In the long run, his passing may make you even stronger.

What format should I render out of Cinema 4d with?

UPDATED 2_27_13!  RENDER USING EXR Lossy Zip16! Since I'm working on a new feature film that will generate over 1500 shots made up of image sequences I need to make sure I choose the right file format to render to lest my hard drives explode. What I need from my format is  at least 16bit, an alpha included and preferably small size. I rendered out a frame from my film tallied up all the file sizes here- their all different types of codecs listed from smallest file size to largest. The render includes an RGBA pass, Depth pass, and Material Luminance pass because thats what I always render out. 1.00mb 8bit-Photo Jpeg %100 1.27mb 8bit-PNG 4.65mb 16bit- EXR lossy ZIP16 5.75mb 8bit-PSD 6.23mb 16bit-EXR lossy PLZ 6.44mb 16bit-PNG 7.94mb 8bit-TIFF 8.50mb 16bit-EXR Lossy 24 9.05mb 16bit-EXR Lossy Run Length 14.6mb 8bit-TARGA 22.4mb 32bit-EXR ZIP16 24.6mb 32bit-EXR Zip1 25.6mb 32bit-EXR PLZ 29.3mb 16bit-TIFF 29.3mb 16bit-PSD 40.0mb 32bit-EXR Run Length 58.7mb 16
