Who needs the movie business?!

In 2007 I learned a lot about the film business... I learned the hard way and I had to learn fast. So after doing things that everyone I knew in the business told me not to do which include turning down a six figure advance to hand "We are the Strange" over to a distributor and walking away from a seven figure deal to direct a film I didn't want to direct.... oh yeh that also includes not returning phone calls and emails to the major talent agencies and flaking out on a number of professional responsibilities because "I didn't feel like it" As a filmmaker.... I want to make films and I want to make my films... I don't want to take meetings to talk about films... I don't want to be "famous" and I don't want to have to pretend to like people I can't stand because they are "important" I don't want to try to convince people that my ideas are marketable.... Did I say I didn't want to take meetings? So in the eyes of ma

More geekNesS

So continuing on teh geekness... and yeah yeah I finished doing the minor editing to the 2nd draft of the script so I'm not totally screwing around looking at motherboards... It's a good time to be a mixed media animator.... I have been shooting my stop motion animation with a Canon 300d...an old 6mp DSLR... up until now if you wanted to shoot stopmo with a DSLR and have any type of video preview you had to buy a spycam and built your own mount to attach it to the view finder blah blah...bottom line is that it sucked... So I have been shooting all my stop motion "blind" that is with no video preview at alll.... Then I saw that Canon just released the newest model of meh old camera the Canon 450d....it's a 12mp camera that has a live preview!! OMG that means you can use video previewing apps with it...yes yes WIN WIN... So sometime in 2008 I'll buy a 450d body and use meh lenses with it.... On the computing tip... so the $6500.00 studio I wrote about last post.

$6500.00 3d animation Studio

Yeh I know I said I wouldn't get ahead of myself and start configuring hardware before the script is locked BUT since I have no producer or anybody else to figure out the budget etc I have to do that and its always best to plan ahead....AND I LOVE TO GEEK OUT!! FUCK YEAH FRIDAY NIGHT AND I'M CONFIGURING WORKSTATIONS AND RENDER FARMS YES YES YES! I know the exciting life of an independent feature animation filmmaker....sigh...haha... So yeh all it costs is $6500.00 to buy all the hardware needed for a 3d animation micro studio.... that includes boring things like UPS's, Gigabit switches, monitors and all that.... So here's some of the geek stats....Here's what you can get for $6500.00 Workstation+ $2500.00 (This is a DIY system gotta put it together but its cheaper that way) Intel Q6600 Quadcore at 3ghz(Oc'd on air) 8gb Ram 1tb sata hd 8800 gt 512mb gfx card 20x DVD burner Keyboard+mouse 750 VA UPS 2 x 24" LCD monitors The computer itself is < $1500...the

Bravery and Originality

The first guy out the door is with the arrows in his back on the floor... I read something like that somewhere sometime before... "Good artists borrow...great artists steal".... yeh we all know that famous quote... It's kinda dangerous when people do steal and are acknowledged for the work they created with the stolen thangs in it... then they forget that they stole it and start to believe that they themselves were the creator...the originator... the innovator... They can lie to themselves and to others but time will tell the truth.... whether those people are revealed to be a sham now or in 100 years it doesn't matter... They know in they're hearts that they're a sham and when that heart stops beating that's when the memories all rush back and your living in a hell you can never escape... Since we don't want to live in hell unless we're really into death metal and think its the coolest thing ever... We shouldn't deny our influences... Borrow d

Truth be toLD

When I saw David Lynch's Lost Highway back in 1996 it totally changed my perspective on "film" and it made me want to make films... Mr. Lynch is one of my favorite living directors and his unwavering spirit will always be an inspiration to meH.

Eee Pc + Celtx

So I got Celtx working today on meh Eee PC... I couldn't find the exact instructions online so I'll post em here... So download the Linux version of Celtx... I put it in my home directory...so it was in //home/user/ Then right click it and choose extract or wha ever to un-tar the archive... So then you'll have a celtx folder in that directory... You can move it but I left it there... Celtx won't work unless you delete this Scim thang so press Ctrl+Alt+T to bring up a terminal window... Then at the prompt type : sudo apt-get remove scim : and press enter and choose y when it asks you Then I booted into Advanced mode...lots of instructions to do that on teh web Once in advance mode go to the launch bar---> Menu editor---> New item Name it Celtx... then in the "command" box put : /home/user/celtx/celtx You can even add the Celtx icon by clicking Browse and navigating to the icon folder inside the Celtx folder... But once you do that you'll have Celtx re
