Time speed and shots and all that...

In response to JCL.... Well the thing is... All the sets/environments will be built ahead of time of course... and this film isn't mixed media the way WATS was... most of the shots will be pure 3d so no complicated stopmo comping is required... The last month of work of WATS I completed 15 minutes of finished animation...was mostly 3d so quick work... If your smart about 3d animation can be quick work THAT IS TO SAY that you aren't doing traditional cartoony animation where your characters are gesticulating like crazy and bouncing around for no reason or cause they are all excited about being animated or something.... my character move more like real people in that they don't move around like they are on meth with itchy pants... So with minimal bodily movement except for action scenes of course and MINIMAL lip sync... yeh I have a way around that too ^ ^ 200 shots a months is not impossible... MY new render farm will be 8.5 times more powerful then my current one so the lim

The Power of E_Vile compels you!

So I was doing some more calculations in regard to the production of the next film.... Projected out across the whole script my current storyboarding work will output about 2,000 shots... So I was like hmmm how many shots do I need to do a month to get done in 10 months of production... 200... so how many is that per day with an average of 30 days per month.....hmmm.... 6.66?! OmGz The power of evil compels me!! That let me know I was on the right track...the tagline is "You will die... inside" So it's fitting....

Meet my producer

Lots of shots LOTS!!!

So I've storyboarded through 16 pages of the script so far... here's some numbers through 16 pages... 360 shots for 16 pages of script.... Projected out to the full 98 pages of the script this would make for 2,250 shots for the whole film... That more than twice the number of shots of WATS...which had a little less than 1000... So I guess my cinematography has gotten a little more complex since my last film...like 2x... 2,250 shots sounds like a good challenge it doesn't scare me as I LOVE challenges ^ ^

Storyboarding Observations...

So I started storyboarding using a custom version of Colors for the Nintendo DS... I reviewed it and posted a link in one of my youtube vids recently... The reason I was excited about using the DS is that when using paper I have to scan/crop/save out all the storyboard frames in order to create an animatic from them... this ends up taking a lot of time...with the DS the frames are saved as .png's so none of that tedious labor is involved... Pro/Cons of Storyboarding on a DS Pros: Portability...no stacks of paper and sharp pencils to carry around, small size, saves digital files, saves time on transfer, color Cons: Takes time to edit a frame you already drew, hard to get a sense of the visual flow because you can only see the previous 9 frames, slower compared to paper (file save)... So after storyboarding for one day with the DS I switched back to paper and pencils today... The DS is a great secondary or on the go storyboarding tool...keep it in your pocket everywhere you go in ca
