Bite off more than you can chew- and chew

I just finished the script/outline for my first serious game that I've been doing the prelim designs/concepts for the past 2 weeks and I have definitely bitten off more than I can chew right now- When I have some better looking concept art done and/or the main character model done I'll make a post with details about the project- right now its a movie/game script and about 20 pages of notes/drawings in my sketchbook I'm going to go all out like you know I do and shoot for a release date of Xmas 2015 for the game- I know how to perform most all of the game mechanics required to make the game a reality but there's a few things I have no idea how to do ^_^ Which means I'll have to learn! I don't know if there's anything better than the feeling of learning something new- pushing your boundaries- biting off more than you can chew helps you grow and learn.... or fail miserably. The game has 11 levels and I'll have to create/program 20-30 enemy types a

Learning out of necessity is the best way to learn new things fast

I just finished my newest game related experiment in another "music video game" This time for Wasteful - this took a couple days working part time- What I aimed to learn with this was third person character controls- I did that a little bit with the Cold Pizza music video but this one has a biped character running around, jumping, and attacking- something my other project didn't have- These projects are not polished or optimized as thats something I'll learn later- I just want to get some practice with the basics first- If you want to learn something new and fast- take on completing a project that in order to complete will REQUIRE you acquire the new skills you desire- if you complete it you WILL learn- Learning through tutorials is great too BUT for me its more difficult to make that stuff stick- watching someone else do it is one thing- going through the motion of doing it yourself- knowing WHY and HOW you're doing what you're doing is the most eff

How/Why I made the Cold Pizza music video game

I just finished a music video game for Kool Skull 's song COLD PIZZA The concept behind it was- create a basic playable game level featuring elements and themes from the song and have the artist performing on video in the level. I thought that since video game playthroughs/Let's Play thangs are all the rage on youtube these days a static music video is not good enough! I've walked away from making films for the time being and am focusing all my energy on game development so this was a fun/quick little test project to take on- So my concept was to make a "game" that they can play- screen record their playthrough and post it on youtube thereby creating their own personal music video for the song- a music video game. If you want to do this you can download the Cold Pizza "games" here Win https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwTEkFe-h60WNFlHTkhVMHdkaUk Mac https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwTEkFe-h60WZm9ZdFhXOGhPQUU Linux https://drive.google.

Beginning 3d game design with Unity3d without scripting

So I'm about a month into learning how to make games with Unity3d- I made a few first person test projects that are unfinished, broken and horrible- you can find one here  Now to further my learning I'm working on a third person 3d game- I hope this one gets finished and is less broken and horrible. I wanted to share the tools I'm using to develop games without having to know how to script- Playmaker   $95   an awesome visual scripting tool that uses state machines, you can make entire games with this without wriitng a line of code- So THIS is what allows non coders to be game developers today- its really fun once you start using it Free video tutorials to learn how to use it Rain AI FREE I never thought I'd be able to have enemies with AI in my projects BUT with this awesome ai tool I do- in a few minutes you can have your enemies patrol an area-pursue the player when they get too close and trigger melee attacks when their super close and then return to pat

Buy my art to fund some new strange video games!

I need to buy some plugins for Unity3d to go forward on my second game project that I will announce soon. My first test "game" is here. I made these hand drawn, one of a kind autographed postcards to sell so I can raise the funds to buy the Unity assets I need. They are $25 each-  Email me at mdotstrange@gmail.com and let me know what # you'd like-payments through paypal- or bitcoin/litecoin There's only one of each so grab the one you want before its gone! They are all 4" x 6" and I'll mail them to you with a special message.
